Last Day of School

I can’t believe it’s Leo’s last day as a kindergartener. He was so excited making a card for his teacher last night. It’s very succinct:

To: Mrs. Crawford.
I love you.
From: Leo.

Then he put little red hearts all over it. Leo’s not one to throw the love word around so this is a HUGE deal. He’s excited about being out of school but then he gets sad (and his big brown eyes can look very, very sad) and he admits that he will miss Mrs. Crawford, the kids, and of course playing with the train…

The speed of life is really shocking. I was going through my wedding pictures the other day trying find one of a friend. She was at our wedding with her baby in an infant carrier and now that baby just graduated from high school. I couldn’t believe how young my parents looked in my wedding pictures. That’s what really shocked me. My husband and I looked younger (and I was a lot thinner) but it wasn’t shocking to me. Seeing my parents so much younger made me a little sad. So now Leo is six years old—-a third of the period of time since my wedding and since Rebecca grew up from that baby in the infant carrier into a gorgeous, poised young woman. And now she’s the same age as I was when I met my husband. Yikes—it’s all too much. My boys are going to be adults before I know it!!

Tomorrow is my husband’s birthday. Leo wrote out a list of things we should do:

-go to Fries and Peanuts
-go to a movie
-have a picnic
-go to the Park With No Toys
-make a chocolate cake
-make chocolate cupcakes
-make chocolate chip cookies

I think there were several other items but I can’t recall. He also wants me to help him make breakfast in bed for Daddy which is laughable as my husband is always up hours earlier than I am!! I told Leo we might have to let Daddy choose from the list as I don’t think the day is long enough to do all that. I tried adding some items to the list but they were all rejected as ‘not fun enough’…. Tonight we have to wrap his presents and plan what games we’re going to play….should be a birthday to remember if somewhat exhausting for the poor man!
