The Best Day of his Life..and I missed it

It was the best day of his life ever…..and I missed it. Whatever illness that has hold of me returned with a vengeance this weekend. I was so sick on Saturday morning that I didn’t even want anyone to talk to me. Ernie showed his mettle as the best father and husband in the world and took care of me and didn’t complain once about running a birthday party on his own. Thankfully, our friends that were there with their kids helped him out. I was heartbroken to miss it but the boys were so excited that frankly, they didn’t care. Leo just cheerfully said ‘o.k., we’ll go without you’ and Owen said, ‘have a great time at home Mom’. uh, yeah, Owen.

They came back glowing. Leo said it was the best party ever, the the best day of his life ever, the most wonderful cake ever, etc. He opened his presents and was thrilled with every one. I said, “gee Leo, your friends must love you a lot to give you such nice presents” and he just beamed. This may be a highpoint. I don’t know that any other birthday will ever again be able to be so perfect. This morning he opened his other presents and again, loved every one (well, he was rather unimpressed with the books we got him but he’ll like those eventually). He even let his brother play them.

Owen seems to have a bit of whatever I have so he’s home with me. Leo and Ernie went off to take Grandpa to church. They’re going to drop him off and pick him up afterwards. I hope everything goes o.k.

I guess it doesn’t matter that I wasn’t there….as long as my boy had the best day of his life ever. There is nothing better in this world than a happy Leo.

Me…..I’m off to bed again.
