oh my. I love Christmas, I really do, but I am exhausted and from what I hear downstairs there are some problems with the train not working….I don’t think I can cope with that. I went to bed at 8:30 last night and I’m still tired….
That being said, we had a wonderful Christmas. On the night of the 23rd I all of a sudden remembered that I always give my parents a cooler full of frozen meals I have made. Oops. So I made a quick shopping list and started cooking. On Christmas Eve I was so tired I decided I just couldn’t handle it and put it all in the freezer and told my parents they would get it late. More importantly however, on Christmas Eve we did all accompany my Dad to church. The boys were little angels if I do say so myself. Particularly as I was so anxious about my father being able to sit in the front row that I had everybody there almost a half an hour early…. Leo sat quietly on the end. Owen sat between me and Ernie and never stopped whispering, “why are they doing that?, what’s that?, what’s going to happen next?, can we get a cheese pizza sometime?, when will this be over?, etc. My dad was really happy to have them there and I was so happy at how well they had behaved that I let them each open one of Debbie’s presents when we got home. Ernie was really wonderful to go as it would have been a bit much with both them and my dad. My Dad did try to guzzle the communion wine again—not sure what that’s about….oh well.
The boys adore all their presents (the dance stage and parking garage from Debbie were particular hits) but this Christmas is all about THE TRAIN. Oh, and Owen’s remote control firetruck. Last night Owen wanted to sleep in our room and I was so tired I could have cared less. When he tried to bring his firetruck to bed however I did put my foot down. So he slept on the floor in our room with his firetruck. He did crawl into our bed in the middle of the night but the first thing he did upon waking was pop up and say “hey, how ya doin’ firetruck? I love you!” before trotting downstairs with it.
My standing rib roast was good but I don’t know if it was as good as it was expensive if you know what I mean. It was still fun to do and looked gorgeous. I meant to take a picture of it but forgot. Of course because the train is set up on the dining room table we had to eat in our laps….not the best choice for prime rib but hey, you gotta have priorities….. My parents had a great time on Christmas Eve and I must say I think I made my best meat pie ever! Yesterday afternoon they were so exhausted I felt bad for them. I think two days in a row was too much for them. I know they’re pleased with how much the boys adore the train though. The guys literally spent almost every waking moment from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. playing with it yesterday. Owen played with his firetruck quite a bit too but Leo barely took a break. My sweet peas. These are the times as Stephanie said.
