Owen woke me up at 6:30 begging to go down and see if the Easter Bunny had come. So I sleepily obliged and the boys did the egg hunt at warp speed. Leo putting his hands in the air in victory while singing the Wallace and Gromit song…it was a delightful blur. After things calmed down I said I was going to lay down for half an hour before getting ready for church. A few minutes later Owen crawled into bed with me telling me he felt SO tired.
Uh oh.
Yup….nasty fever, his throat hurts and he sounds and looks like hell. My sweet baby is sick.
sigh.
I went over to my folks by myself and delivered the hot cross buns and
Easter eggs. I never liked hot cross buns all that much so I hadn’t
thought about it but last week my mother asked me if I’d seen any. I
hadn’t so we called a couple of bakeries yesterday and found some. She
was so pleased. My father was ready and when he saw me he smiled and
said "you are the joy of my life." His hair was clean (something of a
rarity these days) but my mother was fretting that it wasn’t combed and
sticking up—not in place as she said. I told her that he was with me
and I wasn’t an ‘in place’ kind of girl so he was fine. She laughed
and let it go. I HAD to disinvite my parents for Easter dinner….I just don’t DARE let them get sick. I was so disappointed. Church was nice though..Owen would have loved it. The church was so full of flowers that as soon as you stepped in you could smell them. I missed Owen a lot.
Came home and fixed Easter dinner so Ernie could bring it over to my folks. I think it turned out pretty darned good. I made a Balsamic and Dijon glazed ham with glazed pearl onions, new potatoes with butter and parsley, peas and asparagus with mint and basil and a lemon mascarpone cheesecake with blueberries for dessert.
It was kind of gray and cold out—even snowed for a little bit….
Owen’s fever got up to 103 and he was pretty pathetic but later in the day tylenol at least brought it down enough that he cheered up. It’s remarkable how quiet the house is when Owen is sick. Leo just plays a hell of a lot more quietly than Owen. Here is some Leo bliss: curled up reading a book and nibbling on goldfish….
Owen and I snuggled together and watched a lot of Gilmore Girls because he didn’t want to be alone. Even watched the famous finale of season six that had Sparks and others on it
We had asparagus and zucchini. It was so good to have that green green dish.
Wow. That green is so vibrant that I can taste it over here.
I’m sorry Owen was sick. How nice of Ernie to bring dinner over to your folks. You guys give me hope that I’ll be able to figure out how to be helpful to my m-i-l.

(This isn’t related to this post) Did you see that Lego is giving away $5K? I know you are Lego fans in your house.
