I’m so pleased that when Jenna tagged for the book meme that I was actually in the middle of a good book and I didn’t have to post the sex scene from some trashy historical romance.  Oh well, we all have our weaknesses. Of late I’ve been reading The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America by Erik Larson. I’m not all that fascinated with the murder saga (seems a bit heavy handed) as much as the 1893 World’s Fair.  For all that I knew a fair amount about the Fair, it really has brought it alive in a new way and I’ve enjoyed learning more about some of the personal sides of architects/engineers like Burnham, Root, Sullivan, Ferris etc.

So here you are….page 123, three sentences after the fifth sentence:

The more he pressed her for an explanation, the more troubled and adamant she became.  She wished she had never come to Chicago.  It was a blighted, hellish place full of noise and dust and smoke and inhuman towers that blocked the sun, and she hated it-hated especially this gloomy building and the ceaseless clamor of construction.

I’m tagging:

Rarenest (let’s see if we can rouse him from his slumber)
