We went to bed early last night. It's not as though we're ever up late with the house concerts but I think the anticipation and the pleasure of them always leave us a bit wrung out the next day. It was hot yesterday but not hot enough for a/c but damn our bedrooms were warm last night…..couldn't sleep despite being so tired. I'm thinking there may be a nap in my future….now that I've become a connoisseur of naps….
Back to real life today. Leo has a school project he needs to finish. They are hoping against hope they can go swimming at our friends' house and I need to make them both take showers and wash their hair. How long will Leo go with long hair as it gets hot? He refuses to tie it back so we shall see….he also tends to get as red faced and miserable with heat as I do. Ernie says we both get desperate, deer in the headlight looks when we start to get warm. I love my boy.
Ernie's going to make pulled pork on the grill today. It's a test run for CynthiaFest. I'm thinking just a huge batch of pulled pork and a couple of different sauces……whaddya think?
And who else but the inimitable Phil Lee could play CynthiaFest….huh?
And by the way, I want LOTS of people at CynthiaFest….I want to make it wonderful for Phil Lee because that will make it wonderful for us.
Love this video of my sweet boy……
Oh, and any recommendations for interesting sauces for our pulled pork? My favorite is generally a classic North Carolina vinegar sauce but it might be nice to experiement with a few others…..thoughts, recipes, ideas?
ooooh…I hope some sort of saucy tomato-based sauce with a bit of zing shows up on the menu! (sorry I don’t have a recipe to share, I admit, I punt and use ‘Cookie’s Western Style BBQ Sauce.’ Sadly, it’s not available around here anymore, but I get it when we go to my mother’s in Kewanee or my sister’s place in Rock Island.)
I think CynthiaFest will be a blast! can’t wait to see/hear Phil Lee.
Sounds soooooo delish Cynthia! I like a Alabama White Barbecue sauce to top off a pulled pork sammie. It’s also great as dip for grilled veggies. Here’s my recipe.
Yes, We Have No Tomatoes Barbecue Sauce
1 cup mayonnaise – I use the olive oil base mayonnaise
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice (1 lemon)
2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 clove minced garlic
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon black pepper
2 methods of blending 1st – combine all the ingredients in a medium bowl, whisk until well blended. Cover. Or alternatively – combine all ingredients in a large jar, cap with lid and shake until well blended. The 2nd method is an especially amusing task to be assigned children. Refrigerate until ready to use. Drizzle over pulled pork or place in a bowl for for a dip.
I have never tried a white barbecue sauce Debby—-this is going on the list—thanks!!
Ill make sure theres something there for you Susan!!!
I do usually like a vinegar-based sauce too, but this is a really good one as well. I never make or buy BBQ sauce anymore, anytime my youngest brother makes a batch of this I get plenty. One week end while I was away, one of our friends actually drank it out of the bottle. I was pissed.
