Sandwich Life Memories: My Husband

While I'm on vacation I am reposting some old posts. Some because I find them amusing and some because I like to look back and realize how my life has changed since I started this blog six years ago. This was posted in October of 2010.

I got home kind of tired last night.  But the house was clean and Leo was at the dining room table doing his homework and bellowing about everything from fractions to God knows what.  Owen raced to show me the pants, shoes and shirt that his father had gotten for his Michael Jackson costume and things felt pretty damn good.  Owen gave us a preview of his costume, complete with the sequined socks, glove, wig and hat and I think even his brother was impressed.  We all chatted and talked over each other a bit and then I migrated into the kitchen because I haven’t seen David Olney’s Hear and Now for several weeks and I was in just the right mood.  We sat down and I fussed with the computer getting it ready and all of a sudden Ernie jumped up.  He’d remembered some medicine that Leo needed so he rushed about getting it ready while I stared at him.  It brought me straight back to this moment when Leo was just an infant.  We were driving on the highway. I can’t remember where we were going—maybe to Iowa City to see Judi?  We stopped at a highway rest stop and Leo needed to be changed.  Ernie offered to do it and gathered up this tiny little big headed baby and slung the diaper bag over his shoulder.  He was wearing black jeans and a black shirt and some nice looking cowboy boots (Ernie, not Leo) and as he walked up to the building I remember thinking I’d never seen him look so sexy.  And when he jumped up to get Leo’s medicine….well…he looked so gorgeous.

He just has no idea.
