1. O.k…much better today. Gave myself a talking to and hung out with my husband last night. A good way to revive oneself. At one point I said to him, "you know, we're really ignoring our children" and he replied, "I know, isn't it great?" I love being with him. We curled up inside and watched Top Chef Masters and then the Meryl Streep movie "It's Complicated." Delightful way to have a lazy evening with one's spouse. Owen came in periodically to show us various Batman outfits or accountrements. Leo minecrafted happily. It was a good evening.

2. I'm attempting to get over my oatmeal phobia. I read an article about the delights of savory oatmeal and thought this might be the trick for me. I used steel cut oats because I remembered Judi liked those. Ernie put a poached egg on top and I used a bit of salt, pepper and hot sauce. It was almost there for me….and yet it still had some of that oatmeal sliminess. It's a texture thing for me. It's the same problem I have with really soft mochi. I love Japanese food and the only thing I can't eat is the soup served at New Year's. The texture of that soft mochi does me in…and besides…it's dangerous. Firmer mochi I can do in small amount…  Anyway…does anyone have any non slime oatmeal recommendations?

3. Our friend Bob is coming over today to help Ernie move some of the trees and bigger plants. Ernie was d wishing he could do something nice for Bob. I stumbled around trying to say something along the lines of "depending on a friend is almost like a gift" but realized that sounded really cheesy. There's something to that however. I find is a relief when people assume they can ask something of me…well, not a relief, but somehow it's a compliment. I guess it's because they are giving you their trust. Perhaps that's it.

4. The rest of the weekend will be moving plants. We need to do something with the boys…some kind of outing or adventure…not sure what though. Ideas?

5. The fence place said they can move the fence by Labor Day. Woo-hooo.  Then NeighborGate will be OVER!

6. Friday, Friday, Friday, Friday!

  1. Bowling for the boys? Let us know if you have plants you don’t have room/homes for–we can help remove them.

  2. When was the last time you played PuttPutt? We always have a good time trash talking and playing horribly with kids.

  3. Funny what you said about when a friend counts on you to come through for them it is a compliment…I feel the same way. A few years back, my pal Jane Weis was scheduled to have a colonoscopy, on Nov. 30th, my birthday. She knew that it was my birhtday and yet asked me not only to accompany her to the doctor but to take a day off of work to do it. Honestly, I don’t think I was ever so flattered to know that I was that kind of friend to her. So of course, I did. Its really cool to know that you can be counted on and your friend knows that. 🙂

  4. I dunno, but I THINK it is the “sliminess” that’s supposed to be one of the things that makes oatmeal so good for you. Sorry to be the one to point that out, but I read it in a health column.

  5. You definitely should try baked oatmeal! I have a pumpkin recipe as well as a more standard one that allows you to do what you want- apples and cinnamon, raisins, etc. You can FB me if you are interested.
