Lessons in Customer Relations: Geesh Charter Fitness in Urbana

Good God. Are people just stupid? Or are they just mean? What is it?

My friend Teri has gone to Charter Fitness in Urbana for six years. If you know Teri you know she is a stand up person. She is the biggest fan of those she believes in, she is a straight shooter—if something is wrong she'll bring it up but never in a malicious or damaging way. I admire her. She's one of my favorite people but that's really beside the point.

In the last couple of months she's been frustrated by ongoing air conditioning problems at the gym. It would be 75+ when she got there at 5:30 a.m.  NOT the best temperature for working out. So after speaking to them about it to no avail, and with seemingly no solution she commented on their facebook page, pleading for them to get the situation under control.

The other day, after her six years of support, Brad, of the Urbana location, REVOKED her membership because of her complaints.

Are you freaking kidding me? Way to handle a problem Brad. It's laughably stupid in terms of customer relations….it just boggles the mind….

Geesh.

  1. I couldn’t agree more with you, Cynthia. If this guy can’t stand the heat, he needs to get off facebook. And I admire Teri, or anyone, that goes for it when all else fails. You try and reason first and some people still ignore your complaints.
    Geesh is right!

  2. “Brad of the Urbana Location” needs to learn a thing or two about social media and how to use it effectively to manage your brand.
Wait wait wait, this guy failed Customer Service 101, which is kind of a prereqisite for BUS 365 “Using Social Media to Build Brand Champions Amongst Your Target Market”

  3. Well, from reading their facebook comments she was not the only one to complain about the AC at that location. I wonder if that member also had her membership revoked? That is just completely ridiculous. You’d think with all the competition in this area Charter would do it’s best to please their customers, especially those who are long term. Pathetic. Go Teri! Hope she finds a better (and cooler) gym to work out at!
