I can't believe I haven't shared this with you yet.

Remember when I spent my state income tax refund on a Le Creuset Dutch (whoops, French) oven? Remember how HAPPY I was? Remember how beautiful I thought it was? Remember all the wonderful food I was making in it? Remember how I told myself this is well worth the huge splurge because it will last forever?

The enamel…chipped.

Sniff.

I wept….well, not really, but almost. Ernie called Le Creuset and they said to box it up, send it back and they would examine it to see if it was our fault. If not we will get a new one…if it is our fault we can get one at a reduced price…although why I'd want one even at a reduced price if it chipped this soon I don't know. I can't imagine what we could have done….we've babied the little beauty and treated it kindly…no sudden temperature changes…no pouring cold water into a hot pan, etc….wooden utensils….

Sigh.

So I've had to cook….without it. And I miss it SO much…amazing how quickly I had come to depend on it.

Sigh.

We're waiting to hear…it's supposed to take a couple of weeks. I've tried entreating Ernie to call and check on it but he has been unmoved.

Sniff, sniff.

  1. What could you possibly have done to cause a chip there? Did you take an hammer and a chisel to it? If not, I’d be squawking up a blue streak (or in this case, a bleu streak) if they don’t replace.

  2. TJMaxx (in Champaign) has several LeCreuset French ovens in stock. I was just over there this afternoon. I cannot believe that yours has a chip!!! I’ve had mine for several years and it has held up beautifully.

  4. Rember the old white enamel steel water pails with the blue rim? When I was about 7 yrs. we finally splurged and got a new one. Aunt Verna was standing on the porch with the pail on the rail and yelled to me to go with her to the neighborhood pump to get water. I threw a rock and hit the pail and can still hear the enamel splintering and leaving a large black spot. We used the pail for many years. Hope you have good luck with LC…….

  6. I have a Martha Stewart Dutch-French-Korean-whatever oven. It’s barely a year old. The bottom is already pitted with lotsa little black spots. Bleh! They’re on sale again at Macy’s right now, and I’m tempted to replace it and try to treat it better, but I’m not so sure I didn’t cook with TLC in the first place.

  8. This is quite late but Martha Stewart enameled pots were recalled at Macy’s. With out a receipt. They had a design defect that was deemed dangerous since the enamel could suddenly pop off
