Plans for the Weekend? Zilch! Woo-hooo!

First fire of the season last night. I was tired, tired, tired when I got home. Ernie had gotten me a couple of cookbooks from the library so I curled up in front of the fire with them. Hattie assumed her rightful spot laying right in front of the fire and Bob tried to look regal from the couch.

There was a brief battle over tomato sauce issues with a child….geesh…but we got past it. Someone at work had given me some salmon they had smoked themselves and when I opened the packaging just the smell of it was incredible. We shredded it and mixed it with our leftover beet risotto. We made little patties, dusted them with flour, and sauteed them. Well, actually…we flat out fried them in about half an inch of oil. Oh good LORD they were good! We served them with some sharp greens on the side and I think it was one of the best dinners we've made in eons. The credit goes to good ingredients of course….the beets and greens from Sola Gratia and then the wonderful salmon.

Next week is David Olney folks! We still have spots for two more pie entries! We are in talks to replace one of our celebrity judges. Owen had planned to be a judge but when we attempted to give him a pie tutorial (we did get a pie from Curtis Orchards–thanks for the recs) it didn't go so well. He thought about it and then suggested that perhaps he could be a tiebreaker—-just try the last two pies and see which one tasted the least disgusting. I told him that was maybe not exactly the approach we were looking for so he decided he could just give out the prizes. Whew.

Here's the poster for the party. And yes we know there's a typo but we kinda like it….  As always, PLEASE forward this to your friends….we really want a good crowd for David and Sergio. Oh, and they are playing at Fitzgerald's in Berwyn the night before so please head out there if you're in the area. It's their first time playing there and—again—they deserve a great crowd!
