Pie Crust Recipe Call!

O.k….after having all those good pies in our house at the Pie-Off….we just can't very well use premade piecrust for our tourtieres this holiday. As we all know, it's best if I don't bake so Ernie is planning a trial run this weekend of homemade piecrust. We are putting the call out for recommended piecrust recipes, tips and techniques!

We're planning to make about 6-8 tourtieres for our 4th Annual Fats Kaplin and Kristi Rose Holiday House Concert on December 15 (mark the date on your calendar please) so we need to get on top of this….

All suggestions welcome!

Oh, and LOOK what's here:

  1. After years and years and years of trying many different recipies, this is my go-to pie crust that I’ve used for the past four years. I taught it to my Girl Scouts, and last time we had a bake sale, people whose kids were NOT girl scouts wrote to us raving about our apple pies. I’m certain it was the crush (but we used the apple pie recipe in this book, too). Her pumpkin sour cream pie is always a hit, too. But again, I swear by this crust:
Go to the “Look Inside” part of this page, and go to page 442.

And because I’m all about respecting copyright, I highly encourage you to just buy this book. It’s excellent, step-by-step and has many perfect “master recipies” in it that I go back to often.

  2. I’ve always been curious to try the one on thepioneerwoman.com site. She pulses together the ingredients in a food processor, then rolls it out. Pie crust is a kitchen phobia of mine so I can’t speak from experience on this one. Please review if you try it!

  3. Okay so I typed up a bunch of my extensive knowledge of pie crusts, but by the time I got it all edited and corrected, the thing had timed out. And I discovered that Typepad doesn’t care for cut and past. So will type it up again and give it to you when I see you…
    Later, Darlin’

  4. Nice new pot! Ask on the Kitchen page, my friend Cyndi in Texas is a renowned pie maker, and I know Sam uses the her recipe and has had great results.
