Potluck at 6, music to follow. You know the drill.

And thus, the ratatouille making begins.

A bit about Julian…this guy is fascinating!

In more than 40 years as singer and songwriter, London-born Julian Dawson has recorded no less than twenty-three highly regarded CDs under his own name and five alongside his colleague Iain Matthews in the group ‘Plainsong’.

A glance through his song and album credits reveals co-writes and collaborations with Richard Thompson, Dan Penn, Lucinda Williams, the Roches, Nicky Hopkins, Vince Gill, Clive Gregson and Dennis Locorriere, to name a few. He's also worked with Rosko Gee (Traffic) and Jaki Liebezeit (from Can), Garry Tallent, Jerry Douglas, Kimberly Rew, Duane Eddy, Jo-el Sonnier,  and Steve Forbert. To top it off, in 1996 he produced country legend Charlie Louvin’s comeback album.

He tours regularly all over Europe and North America. Eagle-eyed YouTube fans may have seen him with Richard Thompson on the BBC’s ‘Later With Jools Holland’ or live at festivals in Winnipeg (CAN), Newport and Kerrville (USA), or Cambridge, Cropredy, Shrewsbury and Glastonbury (UK).

Shows feature his trademark haunting vocals, eloquent guitar accompaniment, virtuoso harmonica, world-beating songs and charismatic connection to his audience.

His latest release is a 2nd ‘Best Of’ 3xCD compilation box Bargains Galore and, after the publication of his acclaimed biography of pianist Nicky Hopkins, a biography of 60s legend Spencer Davis is in preparation.

Dawson hit the States like a brick through a plate-glass window. When he finished, the room was silent and everyone stopped what they were doing and glued their ears to one of the most startling, marvelous performances I’ve witnessed. A must-see act.

I am a major Julian Dawson fan. From the moment I heard ‘Two Shots Of Jealousy’ I was hooked. He’s a songwriter of immeasurable talent who writes vivid melodies combined with witty and provocative lyrics. Let’s hope he’ll be enriching our lives for many years to come.

What makes him so special? Well, perhaps it’s this. Julian Dawson has the ineffable quality of inspiring and moving the listener to a better place. Songs like “Sigh Heart”, “New Columbus” and “Never Alone” perfectly illustrate the point that Dawson is currently hanging out the competition to dry.

Hope to see you…please let me know if you can make it!!
