As some of you may know, I've been doing work for the Midwest Center for Investigate Reporting (still got room for other gigs though!) and I LOVE it. Now, I must admit, if you had asked me a few months ago if I cared about agribusiness and the like, I would have shrugged and said, "Well, I mean, I live in Illinois, so, uh, maaaaybe." What I have found, however, is that I VERY MUCH care about these issues, I just didn't quite realize it. As I've quickly come to realize, if you care about things like your food supply and food choices, or pesticide use, or social justice, or climate change, or energy, or the environment…well, then you DO care about ag issues. And, as we move toward our next election we need to keep looking, and caring, about rural America. News deserts, tech deserts…all these things matter and affect us. As Ernie and I have driven miles and miles and gone through so many small towns, you can somehow sense the isolation and division. Oddly enough, my passion for back roads and old towns segues with these topics perfectly.
So, that's a long-winded way of saying I'm fascinated by the stories they are doing and sharing. It's a non-profit newsroom and they're looking at things that affect us all pretty directly. If you feel the same I'd love it if you would subscribe to our newsletter. You can send me an email or hop over to FB and sign up.
And, just for being nice, I'll post a random Ed Dickens Big Boy shot (Leo's picture…mine aren't this good)! You don't even have to thank me.
