After our delightful breakfast in Monroe, we headed out to our first stop, Nick Engelbert's Grandview. It's a site of sculpture and architectural outsider detail that was started in the 1930's. Much of it is restored or recreated. I believe some of the originals are at the Kohler Foundation. A wonderful start to the day….all of it draped with Christmas lights.
We wandered on through the fields.
We stopped in Janesville for a sign. The Cozy Inn….a Chinese restaurant that's been on the second floor since the 1920's. I want to go back and eat there to see the interior!
We stopped at the Butterfly Club in Beloit for a drink because, well, hell, just look at that bar!
There were a couple of other signs but we only made one other. It was a good one though…and the bar was delightful…with a great old 1940's bar!
With that we headed to our hotel, stopping at nearby Applebees to get some dinner to take back to the room. A shockingly bad salad for me….I think Ernie's was ok. Eh, we scored big on the breakfasts so it was all good.
A lovely southern Wisconsin day.
Onward.
