Well. Damn. That wasn’t as bad as we had feared.
It turned out that Ernie’s very complicated MRI results (I guess it wasn’t just me) show NO CANCER GROWTH. The bad news is that his spine is totally fucked up between radiation and chemo. He’s going to get a CT scan as recommended, a consult with the Spine Institute and Vasireddy is going to talk to some folks about a PT approach used with others that have similar issues. It’s usually inpatient but he’s going to see if Ernie could get it. I do adore Vasareddy.
We were so ready for bad news. I mean, it’s not great, but at least there was no cancer growth. We walked to the parking garage holding hands. Then we sat in the car, just reeling a bit. I needed iced tea BAD so we decided to go out to breakfast. Sometimes you just need a transition before going home. We headed to OHOP, our first restaurant meal since Leo’s 21st birthday last October.
We sat down in a booth and we both realized our hands were shaking. He drank some coffee and I guzzled my iced tea. We ordered our standard breakfast of two eggs over easy, sausage patties and hash browns well done. Delightful. Slowly, slowly we began to calm down.
Now we’re home and I’m about to book a hotel. I think a bit of the Lincoln Highway in Iowa would do us good AND we have new tires so Ernie can’t complain about dirt roads and the like.
Thank you so much for the love and prayers and worry, all. ❤️ You make us feel loved. We love you back.
