Random Pictures from the Sandwich Life

I forgot to mention that yesterday at the cancer center in St. Louis, as I was sitting in the waiting room, Ernie texted to tell me that the nurse/tech had asked if he was a musician. That's my boy. He's still got it. Nothing new to say about how much I miss my sister Judi … Continue reading Random Pictures from the Sandwich Life

February 2023

Think of this as a triptych entitled, "Mornings with Hattie." Yesterday was the 14th anniversary of my sister Judi's death. February. Oh, February. Groundhog Day would have been my parents' something or other wedding anniversary. Judi died on the 7th in 2009, my mother passed on the 17th in 2010. She was buried on the … Continue reading February 2023

Casual leisure and pumpkins, Judi and Leo

I've already told you that we adore Tal. However I'm also very impressed with her abilities because she managed to get Leo, who a few weeks ago would have sworn he hated getting pumpkins, to go and GET PUMPKINS with her. She was kind enough to send me the picture above on the right and … Continue reading Casual leisure and pumpkins, Judi and Leo

Buy Me a Coffee

Big news from the homefront. Our beloved Leo and Tal made it official! I miss this little guy. It's hard to believe he's going to be 24 in a few weeks. He still has that expression quite often. #neon #neonsigns #everything_signage #roadsidearchitecture #diamonds Such a treasure. I always plan to stop and eat but I never do. However, I never feel guilty as it's always packed. I love the Elks lodges that have elks poking out of them! The Manske-Niemann farm, on old Route 66 just outside Litchfield, Illinois. Stunningly intact early farm. I'm a wimp about trespassing so my pictures aren't great, but DAMN, what a gorgeous property. I know it's been on the most endangered list of @landmarksillinois. Crossed fingers that it will be protected somehow in the future. 🤞🤞🤞 #route66 #highways #oldroads #wander A little bit off Route 66 left in southern Illinois. Blue skies make nice pictures but give me a good gray sky any day. #route66 #illinois #september I found myself utterly smitten with with this little building. You think I could have a little antique shop in there? I know, I know, I'd make a fortune selling 19th century glass.😊 #roanoke #everything_signs #neon #eat I love it when my boys travel because they bring home new sign pictures. They are the best. Oh man, we ALL need a Melody Haven. Thank you @leo_smworks for the pic. ❤️ We've been sticking pretty close to home so no roadside pictures. We did however have a blowout finale to our house concerts with the brilliant Jon Byrd and Paul Niehaus. An incredible evening of love and friends and food and sad, sad songs. more of beautiful Belle Plaine, Iowa I swear I never get a good picture of this motel. There's something that always makes me want to get out of there, which doesn't lead to great photography. Oh, well. Next time maybe! As much as I tried, I just couldn't will those cars out of the way. You really can't beat a big arrow. Generally, I'm an #OddFellows girl, but I do have a major soft spot for these little #Masonic signs. Maybe it's because they look like #Christmas decorations to me? I did get the urge to see @indianajones shortly after this visit. My beloved Lincoln Highway, and MAN was Belle Plaine, Iowa named correctly. A few more shots of the Top Hat Lounge. ❤️🎩 #tophatlounge #dancing #fortdodge #iowa #facade #signage #everythingsignage We were driving toward Pocahontas but saw a sign that sent us down some gravel roads to find the location of the first Pocahontas courthouse. A charming little neon water faucet just off the Lincoln Highway ❤️ We had a lovely night at the Pocahontas Inn and were happy to be welcomes by Pocahontas herself. #fried This church tugs at my heart. It's in a tiny little town, in fact the same town as the vine covered building a few posts back.. You can see it seemingly forever as you drive toward the town. Ernie and Owen sent to a VW swap meet over the weekend. I gotta say, I can't help but be cheered looking at these bugs. Ok, ok, it's a really awkward photo. I guess I was just trying to use negative space. That, or it was the only angle from the car. Can't win them all.
